Norcross Building Collision: Car Plows Into Chinese Buffet

2010 seems to be a banner year for auto collisions with Gwinnett County restaurants. Yesterday marked the second time in as many months that a motorist has driven into a Gwinnett County Chinese buffet, this time the Grand Buffet Chinese restaurant in Norcross (the previous instance occurred in Snellville).

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured in the Norcross building collision, although one restaurant patron was taken to the Gwinnett Medical Center for evaluation. And no structural damage was caused to the building; according to reports, only the glass window impacted by the car was damaged.

One notable detail of this case is that the driver was also charged with violating license restrictions: she was required to have another licensed driver with her at all times while behind the wheel, but did not at the time of this accident. This requirement could have existed for any of several reasons: she could have had a medical condition that might require someone else to take the wheel in the case of an emergency, or there may have been other traffic safety concerns that merited at least a probationary period until the driver could be verified as safe on her own. Whatever the reason, it is unfortunate that she compromised the safety of Gwinnett County drivers and pedestrians, as well as that of the restaurant’s patrons and staff.
